Simon Sohel Baroi

Simon is an Asst. General Manager of Fiber@Home Global Business Limited, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

His biggest achievement is to build the First international Terrestrial Cable System of India-Bangladesh. Through this cable, Fiber@Home is now serving 35% of Internet and International connectivity for Bangladesh. This project destroyed the monopoly of the market and brought privately owned operators into international footprint. Presently coordinating with the major ILD & Tier-1 operators for establishing the International links and POPs in different part of the world is his major role.

Earlier, he has built the largest private & service-neutral fiber optic network in Bangladesh and designed more than 3000KM, ngSDH and OTN network through DWDM technology. Along with that, he designed and implemented the first underground FTTx network in Bangladesh for triple play services, which is now successfully running for last 9 years.

Before Fiber@Home he was in telecom regulator of Bangladesh, name – Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission ( BTRC ). He was working with all the gateway and interconnection operators to remove the dominant activity of the significant market players. Beside this he was in several projects like Introduction of WiMAX, Satellite, MNP etc.

Simon is also heavily involved in so many NOGs and International community driven organizations like bdNOG, SANOG and APRICOT in different roles. To improve the technical knowledge of the local community, he is also helping APNIC as a Community Trainer for long time. Beside his technical activity, he is also very active in Internet Policy Development Discussions in several local and international forum.
