2002 ICANN Board of Directors Election

At its teleconference meeting on Thursday, July 11, 2002, the Address Council selected Mouhamet Diop to fill the ASO position on the ICANN Board to be vacated by Robert Blokzijl following the ICANN meeting scheduled for later this year in Shanghai, China. Mouhamet Diop will serve on the ICANN board for a term of three years.

* The region of Asia/Australia/Pacific has an ASO elected ICANN Board member seated until September 30, 2003, and the region of North America has an ASO elected ICANN Board member seated until September 30, 2004. Nominees from the regions of Asia/Australia/Pacific and North America are therefore not eligible for the 2002 election, as specified by Section (3)(c) of the ASO MoU.  The ICANN geographic regions are defined in Article V, Section 6, of the ICANN Bylaws. Only nominees from the regions of Africa, Europe, and Latin America/Caribbean Islands are eligible for this election.Nominees not eligible for this election may become eligible if the ICANN notifies the ASO of an ASO seat vacancy on the ICANN Board, as described in Section (3)(b) of the ASO MoU.  In order for the nominee to become eligible, the ASO Board seat vacated must be that of an individual from the nominee’s region.  For this reason, the ASO will maintain a list of the nominees who are not eligible for the current election.
