On 31 July 2008, the ICANN Board ratified the Global Policy for Allocation of ASN Blocks to Regional Internet Registries. This policy provides for the allocation of Autonomous System Number (ASN) blocks from the IANA to the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). On 13 June 2008, the Chair of the Address Supporting Organization Address Council forwarded a Proposed Global Policy for Autonomous System Numbers, ASNs, for ratification by the ICANN Board. This proposed global policy had been submitted to the ASO AC by the Executive Council of the Number Resource Organization on 28 March 2008, and adopted by the ASO AC on 12 June 2008. Each RIR community individually discussed the policy and approved its adoption via their own policy development processes.
