2017-2020 and chair of GNSO Standing Selection Committee 2018-2020.
Currently Chairman of the Board of IoT service provider BaseN (https://www.basen.net).
Previously Chairman of the Board of IoT network device and solution provider Viola Systems Oy, (acquired by ABB Group in 2015) 2004-2015, Chief Technology Officer of telecoms and Internet provider KPNQwest 1998-2001, and founder and CEO of the first commercial Internet Service Provider in Finland, EUnet, 1992-1996 that managed the .FI ccTLD and coordinated IP address allocation. Co-founder of first pan-European ISP. Co-founder of Finnish Internet Exchange (FICIX).
Ran the anon.penet.fi anonymous remailer. Recipient of EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation)
Pioneer Award 1997 for contributions to online freedom and privacy.
Founding board member of Bits of Freedom (Amsterdam) and Bridges.org (Washington, DC and Cape Town, South Africa)
Managed the UUCP/USENET node for Finland in 1985-1988, co-responsible for the first public Internet connection to the Soviet Union.
