This nomination period will close on 21 February 2007. All candidates desiring to be selected to the ICANN board by the Address Council must meet the selection criteria and conflict of interest requirements as stated by ICANN in its Bylaws and other relevant documents that ICANN publishes or identifies. No candidate will be considered who does not sign a Letter of Certification attesting to compliance with the ICANN stated requirements as well as attesting to previous conduct and character. On the 1st of April 2004, the Number Resource Organisation (NRO) signed a Letter of Intent with ICANN, documenting their intention to enter into an MoU to form a new ASO within the ICANN structure. Final approval of the proposed ASO MoU is contingent upon public comment periods administered by the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) of the NRO and by ICANN.

The Address Council of the Address Supporting Organisation is pleased
to announce the 5th ASO General Assembly Meeting, to be held on
Wednesday, 5 May 2004 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This meeting will
be hosted by the RIPE NCC alongside the RIPE 48 Meeting and will be
open to all parties with an interest in ASO policy matters.

of the formation of the Number Resource Organization (NRO). This letter included
a copy of the NRO Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and a proposed MoU for
the formation of a new ICANN ASO, as required under the reformed ICANN structure.

An election was held at APNIC 16 to fill the vacant Asia Pacific seat on the ASO Address Council. The result of the ballot was an equal number of votes for each candidate. On the recommendation of the APNIC Executive Council, the meeting attendees and both candidates agreed to resolve the election by coin toss. At the ICANN meeting in Rio de Janeiro on March 24, 2003, the RIRs held a meeting with the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN. At that meeting the RIRs delivered a communiquè to the GAC and made a presentation highlighting the communiquè .

In December, 2002, Barbara Roseman resigned from her position as an ARIN region ASO AC member. Barbara's term was scheduled to end on December 31, 2003. To fill the vacancy caused by the resignation, the ARIN Board of Trustees has appointed Kim Hubbard as in interim member of the ASO AC. Kim's term will end on December 31, 2003.

LACNIC is pleased to announce the results of their election for ASO Address Council representatives. The election took place at the LACNIC III Public Policy Meeting held in Mexico City, Mexico. Raimundo Beca, Julian Dunayevich, and Hartmut Glaser were elected. They will each serve terms beginning immediately and expiring on the dates described in
the table of Address Council Members.

At its teleconference meeting on Thursday, July 11, 2002, the Address Council selected Mouhamet Diop to fill the ASO position on the ICANN Board to be vacated by Robert Blokzijl following the ICANN 2002 Annual Meeting.
Mouhamet Diop will serve on the ICANN board for a term of three years.

The Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) have been working together for some time on the production of a relationship agreement, or contract, between the RIRs and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
There is now a draft contract that, if executed, would represent agreement between the RIRs and ICANN on matters of roles, responsibilities and procedures relating to Internet address management and global address management policies. This contract would further codify, or formalize, the existing working relationship between the RIRs and ICANN which is set forth in the ASO MoU.
The RIRs and ICANN are currently accepting comments on the draft.

During the 12th APNIC open Policy Meeting in Taipei, Dr Kenny S. Huang was elected as the new Asia Pacific region Address Council representative at the ASO Meeting on Friday 31 August. He will replace Jianping Wu from 1 January 2002. Dr. Huang is currently the Head of Communication & Network Services, Academia Sinica and has a distinguished history of involvement in the Internet in Taiwan.

The second ASO General Assembly meeting was held on Wednesday, 4 April 2001 in the Hyatt Hotel at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco USA, hosted by ARIN during the ARIN Public Policy and Members Meeting. At its teleconference meeting on Wednesday 2 August 2000, the Address Council elected Dr Sang Hyun Kyong to fill the latest ASO position on the ICANN board. This position was vacated on 30 September this year by Pindar Wong, who served for a one-year term as an ICANN Director and also as Vice-Chair of ICANN.
Dr Kyong will serve on the ICANN board for a term of three years.

ICANN has announced its next round of meetings, to be held in Yokohama, Japan on 14-18 July 2000.
The previous round of ICANN meetings was held in Cairo, Egypt on 7-10 March, 2000. Full details are still available from the Cairo meeting web site .

In accordance with the ASO MoU, the ASO Address Council held its first General Assembly meeting on 19 May 2000. This meeting was held in Budapest, Hungary, in conjunction with the RIPE-36 meeting, hosted by RIPE NCC.
[23 March 2000]
On 23 March 2000, ICANN called on the Address Council to select 2 individuals to fill ASO seats on the Independent Review Panel (IRP) Nominating Committee. In their letter to the AC, ICANN described the function of the committee, and provided general guidelines as to the type of individuals who would be suitable for nomination.
At its 18 May 2000 meeting, the AC resolved to make an open call for proposals for individuals to fill these positions, and to make a selection from those proposals at a future meeting.
The Address Council called for proposals of individuals to sit on the IRP Nominating Committee, to be submitted to the ASO Secretariat by no later than 5pm UTC on 20 October 2000. Proposals were required to provide at least the following.

On 15 February 2000, the Address Council made a
call for nominations to ASO seats on the ICANN Board. The deadline for nominations was 19 April 2000 (30 days prior to the recent ASO
General Assembly meeting).

At its 2 November 1999 meeting in Los Angeles, the Address Council approved a revision of these terms on request of the 3 ASO ICANN directors, and asked ICANN to implement this revision as follows:

ICANN advised the Address Council on 22 April 2000 that the changes of terms had been formally implemented as requested.

On 28 October 1999, ICANN announced that nine new Directors had been named to the Board by its three supporting organizations.
