[aso-policy] Multicast addresses
Hi all, and happy new year,
My question is the following :
How are multicast addresses affected and by Who ?,
What addresses is an ISP supposed to use for multicasting ?
In my understanding, the RIR are not responsible for that ..., but ICANN
should be....
It seems that the malloc group from IETF is working on a dynamic mechanism
to distribute multicast address dynamically and for specific duration. But
it doesn't seems to be operational yet,
I also ran into the following draft from IETF from November 99 :
http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mboned-glop-addressing-02.
txt
It describes how 233/8 could be allocated by using the 2 bytes of the AS
number for the third and fourth bytes of the multicast address giving each
AS 255 multicast addresses.
But this seems to be only for testing and evaluation purpose...
and Chapter 10 asks for IANA recognition of this proposal....
Would'nt it be Icann's role to validate such proposal ?
If so, that should be discussed and proposed to the board at the next Icann
meeting by the Address council
(Please anyone correct me If I am wrong)
Thanks for your concern
Grégoire Sénéclauze.
